When Milestone Press published Jim Parham’s new Tsali Trails Map on April 1 of this year, we pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds toward maintenance of Tsali’s trails. This week, we made our first donation from sales of the map, which covers a trail system just a few miles down the road from our office.
“We’re happy to be able to give something back to a local trail system that has provided so much enjoyment to so many outdoor adventurers,” said Parham, who presented the check to Andy Zivinsky and Sae Smyrl, President and Treasurer of Nantahala Area SORBA (Southern Off Road Bicycle Association). “This chapter of SORBA was created in 2012, and it has already done a whole lot of work on the trails, including constant maintenance—clearing downed trees, cutting back vegetation, and building drainage features—and collaborating with the Forest Service to install brand new signage.”
When accepting the check, Zivinsky stressed that donations like the one from Milestone Press can really make a difference. “Our next major purchase will be a trailer to carry our heavy trail maintenance tools, and this donation will go a long way toward helping with that,” he said.
The new Tsali Trails Map, which retails for $9.99, shows all four trails at Tsali Recreation Area, details the trail system’s alternating use schedule for bikes and horses, and provides information about Tsali’s USFS Campground. The new map is currently available at local bike shops, outfitters, and bookstores. For more information on the map, contact Milestone Press at 828-488-6601 or visit www.milestonepress.com.
