Our friend Hawk Hagebak Hawk hails from Atlanta, and his love for the Southern Appalachians brings him and his motorcycle our way every once in a while. Hawk stopped by recently, this time with his wife Lisa and their 16-year-old daughter, Annabelle. They were coming to the end of a vacation spent touring around western North Carolina, including Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, riding some of the best routes in his classic Motorcycle Adventures guidebook series. Annabelle had just finished “slaying the dragon” near Deal’s Gap on her own bike for the first time (can you say “proud parents?”), and all three of them were celebrating a great week of great weather, riding, and family togetherness.
Besides being a guidebook author, Hawk is a Cobb County, Georgia police captain, and this coming December will mark the end of a 27-year career in law enforcement. We hope to see him and Lisa more often, as he and Lisa plan to move to the North Carolina mountains after his retirement. Here’s to passing the torch of outdoor adventure to the next generation!
